This magnificent trip is consisted of three parts

-Mountain trekking

-Safari

-Ocean (diving and/or relaxing)

Part 1

Mountain trekking

Mount Kenya Climb
6 Days Chogoria Route Down Naromoru route
Distance: 75 km | Difficulty: Demanding  | Start/Finish: Nairobi

Summary
This is by far the most scenic and interesting route. It takes in both tropical forests and moor land. Pack camping gear and supplies to strike out west up this long but spectacular approach through the deep chasm of gorges valley.

Day 1:  Nairobi/Chogoria
Pick up from your hotel at 8am and drive north to Chogoria town for lunch and afternoon leisure walk in the town to acclimatize. Dinner and overnight at Chogoria Transit Motel, 2000m, L,D.

Day 2: Chogoria/Mount Meru Bandas – 4hrs, 16km walk, 950m ascent
After breakfast, take a 4x4WD vehicle to the forest clearance, 16km from where the walk starts. You will walk for 16km through the forest along the dirt and sometimes very muddy road for 4hrs to reach Mount Meru Bandas at 2950m for lunch and afternoon walks. Dinner and overnight at Mt. Meru Bandas, B,L,D

Day 3: Mount Meru Bandas – Road Head Camp, 3hrs, 9km, 350m ascent
After breakfast follow the track through giant heather and forest up to Chogoria road head from where the path drops to cross a stream then follows the broad ridge to the east of the gorges valley to reach Road Head Camp taking approximately 3-4hrs. Overnight at Road Head Camp at 3300m, B,L,D.

Day 4: Road Head/Mintos Hut – 4 hrs, 12km
After breakfast follow the track through giant heather and forest up to Chogoria road head from where the path drops to cross a stream then follows the broad ridge to the east of the gorges valley to reach Mintos Hut, 4200m. Dinner and overnight at Mintos Hut, B, L, D

Day 5: Mintos/Point Lenana/Met Station – 11-12 hrs, 29km, 785m ascent/1985m descent
Leave shortly after midnight at 2am towards the main peaks and divide after an hour, above a flat green area at the head of the valley known as temple fields, arriving at point Lenana at 6:30am. After taking photographs, descend to Mackinders for breakfast and continue down to Met Station at 3000m for dinner and overnight rest, B,L,D

Day 6: Met Station/Naromoru/Nairobi – 3hrs, 9km, 400m descent
After breakfast, descend through the rainforest which is 9km to Naromoru Park Gate at 2,600m where you will connect with your transport vehicle back to Nairobi, arriving at approximately 3pm, B,L

Part 2

Safari Part
3 Days Trip to Tsavo East and west national park tour from Mombasa Kenya Safari

Day 1: Nairobi – Tsavo West National Park, Kenya
Pick up from your hotel in Nairobi at 8am. Departure to Tsavo West National Park. On entering the park, proceed with a game drive en route to Ngulia Safari Lodge arriving in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive including a visit to Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary. Dinner and overnight at Ngulia Safari Lodge, B,L,D.

Day 2: Tsavo West National Park – Tsavo East
Early morning pre-breakfast game drive. Tsavo East National Park. Arrive Tsavo East and embark on a game drive and a visit of Aruba Dam before lunch at Voi Safari Lodge. An afternoon game drive follows. Dinner and overnight at Voi Safari Lodge, B,L,D

Day 3: Tsavo East – Mombasa
Early morning pre-breakfast game drive. After breakfast, drive to Mombasa, B.

 

Part 3

Ocean part:

Day 1-2: Tsavo East  – Mombasa Area
Days of diving, relaxation and exploration of Indian ocean’s coastline.

Optional activities such as sailing, cycling, visiting nearby caves etc.
Day 3
Day of relaxation. For those submerged, obligatory interval before tomorrow’s flight.

Day 4: Mombasa – Departure
Today, transfer to the airport for your departure.

 

 

General Mount Kenya climbing/trekking overview:
Food
Rest assured that the meals prepared and served by the cook whilst on the mountain is plenty, healthy and sumptuous.

Mt Kenya Guides and porters
* Have great wealth of experience in handling clients while trekking
* Guide has at least 5 years of experience while porters at least 3 years
* Both Guides and porters communicate greatly in English.
* Mountain cook ensures that you eat well prepared and sumptuous food accompanied by hot beverages. Vegetable and fruit salads are also served with your meals.
* Guides have training with National Outdoor leadership school
* You will be proud to hear that our mountain guides and porters participate in Mountain day clean ups

 

 

HEALTH:
* Yellow Fever: This is compulsory and a certificate might be requested on arrival at the airport. Please make sure that you have the shot in time.
* Malaria: There are various types of medicine on the market today used for prevention and treatment of malaria. We recommend that you consult your octor on which prophylactics to take 2 weeks prior to your arrival.
* Water purification tablets: On the mountain, we use water from the streams. Although drinking water will be boiled first, it is advisable to ad a tablet or two – to be on the safe side.
* Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS): This is a condition commonly experienced at high altitude. In most cases, this can be avoided by following guidelines on hking pace, eating, resting and fluid intake.

We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the various affects that altitude can cause.
* Please consult your doctor on use of Diamox – tablets used by some mountaineers to help them cope with the effects of altitude
*Personal medical supplies (optional): As your tour leaders, we will carry a group medical kit. Some items that you might want to carry would include; aspirin, imodium, laxatives, antibiotics, bandages, malaria tablets, gauze, adhesives, betadine, throat lozenges, eye drops, sun block, lip balm, moleskin antihistamine tablets and cream.

NOTES:
1. Kindly note that the above recommended drugs are just our suggestions and Mount Kenya Climbing Expeditions shall not be held responsible for the use of these drugs. Any effects arising from the use are NOT our responsibility. We recommend you consult with your medical doctor. You should not attempt the climb if you have any cardiac or pulmonary disease.

2. Once the climb has commenced, no refunds are offered as a result of reduction in days, alteration of the schedule/route by the climbers, sickness and or any other reasons whatsoever.

Equipment check list, you need to check this out:
* Headlamp
* Walking pole(s)
* Sleeping Bag,
* Gaiters: To keep mud, rocks, and snow out of your boots.

Water purification
This is essential as water for drinking is collected directly from mountain streams. (Bring those purifying tablets)

Hiking Boots
This is the most important item on the list. You’ll need a comfortable/waterproof pair of hiking boots which offer plenty of support. Make sure they are comfortable and waterproof because there no shopping malls up there.

* 1 waterproof jacket (with a hood) & pants
* 1 to 2 long sleeves shirts (cotton/wool)
* 4 pairs of thermal hiking socks

* 2 pairs of thermal socks liner
* 2 to 3 pairs of shorts (with pockets)
* 1 pair of hiking boots
* 1 wide brimmed hat / baseball cap
* 1 pair of sneakers/trainers/takkies
* 1 pair of warm heavy weight gloves/mittens
* 1 pair of gaiters
* 1 pair of light weight gloves (inner gloves)
* 1 bandana
* 1 pair of sunglasses/mountaineering glasses

* 2 x 2 litres water bottles (camel bags preferably)
* 1 head lamp (plus spare batteries & bulb)

* 2 – 3 packets of moist towelettes.
* 1 travel pillow (optional)

Personal Items & Toiletries:
US $ Travellers cheques, toothpaste & tooth brush, body lotion, toilet paper and other personal hygiene items. (Ladies, please carry some sanitary toiletries as being at high altitude may alter your cycle).

Photographic (optional):
* 1 camera (plus spare batteries), film & tripod stand,different lenses,
* 1 pair of binoculars,video camera,video tapes, battery packs.

Miscellaneous (Optional):
Notebook, pencil, sketchbook, masking tape, zip loc plastic bags, ear plugs, address list for post cards, map of Kilimanjaro (the trip leader will have one).[/tab]
